Game Changer: Magnus Abe Applauds Oborevwori’s Dramatic Switch to APC
A prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Magnus Abe, has expressed optimism that the defection of Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, his deputy, the entire cabinet, and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to the APC will significantly bolster the party’s influence in the South-South region.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Parry Benson, on Sunday, Abe described the move as a strong testament to the vibrancy of Nigeria’s democracy under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC.
Abe emphasized that democracy thrives when citizens are truly free to associate and make independent political choices. He praised the defection, noting it was motivated by a desire to fast-track development in Delta State by aligning more closely with the federal government.
According to him,
“Under President Tinubu’s leadership, states have witnessed a notable increase in available resources, and visionary governors have leveraged this to better serve their people.”
He added,
“Sheriff Oborevwori and his team have recognized this opportunity and made a strategic decision to align with the centre to speed up development efforts in Delta State. It is a commendable and forward-thinking move.”
The statement also drew parallels with the 2007 defection of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), highlighting it as a strategic political maneuver aimed at enhancing governance.
Abe further responded to criticisms accusing President Tinubu and the APC of promoting a one-party system. He argued that the APC is under no obligation to nurture opposition against itself, urging critics to stop adopting a “victim mentality.”
He called on top APC stakeholders in Delta State, including Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo, Ayeni, and others, to come together and rally behind Governor Oborevwori and his team as they transition into the APC fold.
Abe concluded by affirming that the APC under President Tinubu’s leadership remains broad, inclusive, and welcoming to all Nigerians, regardless of their backgrounds.
