FG Demands Swift Payment for Gas Supplied to Ghana, Urges Mahama to Honor Commitments”

The Federal Government has called on Ghana’s President, John Mahama, to engage with his country’s relevant agencies regarding the timely payment for gas supplied to them.

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, made this request in a statement posted on his handle on Thursday. Ekpo addressed President Mahama during the Meeting of the Committee of Ministers of the West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP) in Accra on Wednesday.

During their conversation, Ekpo reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to fostering continued collaboration with Ghana in the gas sector. He also assured Mahama of Nigeria’s willingness to resolve any outstanding issues related to gas supply under the WAGP framework.

The Minister urged President Mahama to ensure that Ghana’s relevant agencies fulfill their financial obligations promptly for the gas supplies. Additionally, Ekpo appealed to Mahama to direct the necessary authorities to expedite the fiscal amendments to the WAGP Act to align with changing operational needs and uphold regional stability, as outlined in the Treaty.

Ekpo also sought Ghana’s ongoing support for the African Atlantic Gas Pipeline Project, a crucial initiative designed to enhance regional energy security and economic cooperation.

In response, President Mahama thanked Ekpo for his visit and assured that Ghana would continue to meet its financial responsibilities towards the West African Gas Pipeline project. He also reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to supporting regional harmony and the proposed amendments to the WAGP Act.
