‘I Changed After She Broke Me’ – Ruger Blames Toxic Behaviour on First Heartbreak

Nigerian singer Michael Adebayo Olayinka, popularly known as Ruger, has revealed that his journey into emotional detachment and toxic behavior began after his first heartbreak at just six years old.

The ‘Toma Toma’ hitmaker opened up during a recent episode of The Bro Bants show, recalling a painful childhood memory. He said a much older lady, who affectionately referred to him as her “boyfriend,” left him heartbroken after he witnessed her being intimate with another man.

“The last time I experienced heartbreak, I was very young,” Ruger shared. “There was this aunty I liked — she used to call me ‘my boyfriend,’ so I assumed she was mine. One day, I saw a guy smashing her through the window. The guy was tearing her up, bro. I cried, I was traumatised. I even started singing ‘Imagine That’ by Styl-Plus. That moment triggered my toxic traits.”

Meanwhile, Ruger has revealed his intention to tie the knot in 2025. In a Snapchat post on Sunday, he confessed that witnessing so many weddings lately has made him reflect on his own lifestyle.

“Everybody is just getting married. Got me questioning myself—how long will I continue this playboy shii?” he wrote. “I’m settling down this year, period. I’ll soon be 30, tf.”
