Labour Party Purges ‘Disloyal Members’: Ekong Among Top Names Suspended!

The Lagos State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has handed a six-month suspension to its former chairperson, Pastor Dayo Ekong.

According to reports, members of Ekong’s former state working committee were also suspended over alleged anti-party activities.

In a letter signed by the party’s newly appointed caretaker committee chairman, Rotimi Odunaike, and secretary, Dorcas Omorodio, the suspended officials were accused of gross misconduct and breaching the party’s constitution.

Odunaike stated that the disciplinary action was taken to restore order and ensure adherence to the party’s constitutional principles within the state.

“The former state Chairperson, Pastor (Mrs) Dayo Ekong, is hereby suspended for six months due to gross misconduct and for violating the party’s constitution by simultaneously holding the positions of state chairperson and national financial secretary,” the letter read.

Additionally, all members of Ekong’s executive committee have been suspended for six months.

“Every member of the former state executive committee is suspended for six months for failing to uphold the party’s constitution and engaging in anti-party actions,” the statement added.

The caretaker committee also announced the immediate dissolution of all local government and ward executives appointed under Ekong’s leadership.

“All executives at the local government and ward levels appointed by the Dayo Ekong-led exco are hereby dissolved, and their members are suspended for six months for anti-party conduct,” it stated.
