Driver Arraigned for Manslaughter in Death of 14-Year-Old Boy in Lagos

A Lagos driver, Isiaka Afolabi, has been arraigned before the Badagry Magistrates’ Court for alleged manslaughter following the death of a 14-year-old boy in a road accident. The tragic incident occurred on April 22 around 3:30 p.m. in the Badagry area.

According to the prosecution, Afolabi was operating a sport utility vehicle (SUV) with registration number AGL 122 BJ when he allegedly drove recklessly and struck the teenager, resulting in his immediate death. Police prosecutor Inspector Edet Ekpo described the driving as dangerously negligent and a serious threat to public safety.

The charge brought against Afolabi falls under Sections 27 and 19 of the Lagos State Road Traffic Act, Cap 124. The defendant pleaded not guilty during the court hearing.

Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni granted bail in the sum of ₦1,000,000, requiring two sureties of equal amount. The sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and present evidence of gainful employment.

The case has been adjourned to July 9 for further proceedings.
