Kano Governor Condemns Benue Killings of Indigenes as Barbaric and Senseless
Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has strongly denounced the brutal killing of two young Kano indigenes, Barhama Suleiman and Jamilu Ahmad, in Makurdi, Benue State’s capital.
In a statement released on Tuesday by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor confirmed that the victims were attacked late Monday night around 11:00 p.m. by unidentified assailants in what was described as an unprovoked and cold-blooded assault.
Expressing deep sorrow, Governor Yusuf called the act barbaric, senseless, and a direct attack on the unity and rights of Nigerians to live and work peacefully anywhere in the country.
“With profound grief, we announce the loss of two innocent and peace-loving sons of Kano,” the governor stated. “Their only offense was simply choosing to live and work lawfully in another part of Nigeria.”
He assured the public that the Kano State Government is working closely with security agencies and their Benue counterparts to track down those responsible for the attack.
“This administration will leave no stone unturned. We will pursue justice through all lawful and diplomatic means to ensure that the perpetrators are held accountable,” he vowed.
Governor Yusuf also extended heartfelt condolences to prominent Islamic scholar Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil, the father of the two deceased young men, calling it a collective tragedy that goes beyond one family.
“This is a shared grief, not just for Kano, but for the entire nation,” he emphasized. “No Nigerian should ever be targeted or killed simply for being from a different region.”
He urged Kano residents and Nigerians at large to remain calm and avoid retaliation, while assuring that justice will prevail.
Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his government’s commitment to protecting all citizens, regardless of where they reside, and called on federal and state security authorities to treat the matter with the seriousness it demands.
