2027: The Tsunami Has Begun, Peter Obi Should Lead the Coalition – Dele Momodu

Media mogul and former presidential candidate, Dele Momodu, has expressed strong support for former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, to lead the coalition of opposition forces gearing up for the 2027 general elections.

Momodu emphasized the need for democratic processes in selecting a unifying leader from among top figures such as Peter Obi, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and ex-Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi.

“I have never asked anyone not to support Obi—he’s a good friend,” Momodu said. “If I’m asked today who should lead the coalition, I’d say Peter Obi. But I hope the decision will be made democratically. Let Obidients campaign for Obi, Atikulates for Atiku, and Amaechi’s supporters do the same.”

He described the coalition as more prepared than the All Progressives Congress (APC) was at its formation, saying, “This is a movement. You can see that the tsunami is starting already, and I’m very proud of the coalition.”

Momodu also accused the ruling APC of fearing the growing strength of the opposition—particularly the enduring popularity of Atiku Abubakar.

“The moment you start seeing a campaign of calumny against Atiku, you know they are scared of him. Even Bwala was on air pleading with Atiku to join Tinubu. That shows fear,” he noted.

Praising Atiku’s consistency and independence, Momodu added, “Since 1993, when he stepped down for my adopted father, Atiku has pursued his ambition with no godfather, no state backing, just his business, education, and agricultural investments.”

He also lauded the former Vice President’s clean political image: “You won’t see thugs at his house. Atiku won’t ask anyone to rig elections on his behalf. These are traits I respect in a leader, and I have the right to say so.”

Momodu’s comments reflect the rising momentum within the opposition, with growing calls for unity, transparency, and a clear strategy to challenge the APC in 2027.
