Governor Dikko Umar Radda of Katsina State has redeemed his promise to provide financial support to three female members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) who survived a fire outbreak at their residence in the state.

According to Ireporter Online, the corps members narrowly escaped death after a mysterious fire broke out at their lodge located within Al-Ilam Islamic College in the Kofar Guga area of Katsina. The incident reportedly occurred while the victims were asleep inside the building.

Reports indicate that several other corps members had earlier left the lodge with their belongings earlier in the day, unaware that the three victims remained inside the facility. The affected corps members were said to have woken up in panic as the flames spread across the building.

In a desperate bid to save their lives, the victims reportedly jumped from the front section of the storey building to the ground floor, escaping the inferno with only the clothes they were wearing while leaving behind their personal belongings.

Following the incident, the Katsina State NYSC Coordinator, Ibrahim Saidu, briefed Governor Radda and the Director-General of the NYSC, Oluseye Olakunle Nafiu, on the development.

It was gathered that the NYSC Director-General subsequently approved the sum of ₦250,000 for each of the affected corps members to assist them in coping with the trauma and replacing some of the items lost in the fire.

Governor Radda had also promised an additional ₦500,000 for each of the victims, a pledge which has now been fulfilled.

The financial assistance was presented to the beneficiaries by the Chairman of the Katsina State NYSC Governing Board and Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Surajo Yazeed, on March 4, 2026, during a brief presentation held at his office in Katsina.
