Speaking through his spokesperson, Garba Shehu, during an interview, Buhari reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and debunked reports of discord with President Tinubu.

“For Muhammadu Buhari, he’s essentially an APC member. He does not forget the fact that he ran one, two, three times and failed until the APC was formed,” Shehu said. “APC gave him two terms, and he remains grateful. As I’ve heard him say: ‘I will never be ungrateful. I will never betray the party that gave me two terms in office.’”

Shehu dismissed ongoing rumors about a strained relationship between Buhari and Tinubu, describing them as baseless and speculative. He emphasized that there had been no formal disagreement or breakdown in trust between the two leaders.

Addressing concerns about perceived internal tensions within the ruling party, Shehu said Buhari’s camp is not alarmed. He highlighted the effort and sacrifices made in 2014 to establish the APC as a formidable political force, which ultimately led to Buhari’s electoral victory.

“It took a lot of doing, energy, and sacrifice for the APC to be formed. Those who witnessed what it took to build this coalition are unlikely to be the ones tearing it apart now,” he said.

Buhari’s declaration comes amid rising speculation about internal divisions within the APC, especially in the face of mounting public discontent over economic challenges and shifting political alliances ahead of the 2027 elections. However, his latest remarks appear aimed at reinforcing party unity and dispelling any notion of personal disloyalty.
