Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing Edo North in the National Assembly, has publicly backed Governor Monday Okpebholo’s stance that former presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, should obtain security clearance before visiting Edo State.

ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE, Governor Okpebholo had earlier cautioned Obi against visiting any part of the state without notifying the appropriate authorities, linking a recent visit by the former Anambra governor to a purported security lapse that allegedly led to the deaths of three individuals.

ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE, Oshiomhole expressed his support while speaking during a live appearance on Arise Television’s “Prime Time” on Friday, stating that it was not only a security matter but also an issue of protocol, decency, and self-respect. He emphasized that it is customary and respectful for any high-profile figure to inform sitting state governors when intending to access public or government-owned facilities.

He further noted that the school Obi was reportedly scheduled to visit is a state-owned institution, maintained and funded by the Edo State Government. According to the former Edo State governor, such visits should be preceded by appropriate communication to avoid undermining institutional authority.

“Let’s be honest; the property of the Edo State Government is under the custody of the sitting governor,” Oshiomhole said. “Even I, as a former governor, would not walk into a state-owned facility in Enugu or Anambra without first notifying the state government. It is a matter of courtesy and self-respect.”
