Alaafin Gives Ooni 48 Hours To Revoke Chieftaincy Title In Tense Dispute

the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, demanding the revocation of the Okanlomo of Yorubaland chieftaincy title recently awarded to Ibadan businessman Engineer Dotun Sanusi.

In a statement signed by his Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaiye, the Alaafin described the Ooni’s conferment as an “affront” and a direct challenge to his authority.

The statement further criticizes the Ooni’s action as “ultra vires” and an insult to Yorubaland’s traditional hierarchy, citing a Supreme Court ruling that affirms only the Alaafin has such authority.

The Alaafin warned that failure to revoke the title within the stipulated 48 hours would lead to unspecified “consequences,” highlighting the seriousness of the dispute.
