“Datti Baba-Ahmed Speaks On Teaming Up With Amaechi Ahead Of 2027 Elections”
2027: Datti Baba-Ahmed Hints at Possible Alliance with Amaechi, Reaffirms Loyalty to Peter Obi
Former Labour Party (LP) vice-presidential candidate, Dr. Datti Baba-Ahmed, has indicated that former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, is among the few politicians he would consider aligning with for the 2027 general elections.
According to iReporter Online, Baba-Ahmed made the disclosure during an interview on Politics Today, a political programme aired by Channels Television on Friday.
When asked about potential alliances ahead of 2027, the Kaduna-born politician referred to Amaechi as a “good guy” and noted that he is one of the few he could “adopt” politically, aside from his former running mate, Peter Obi.
“Rotimi Amaechi is a good guy,” Baba-Ahmed said. “He is one of those I can adopt.”
Despite this openness to political collaborations, Baba-Ahmed was critical of the newly formed opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform.
He dismissed the group’s intentions as lacking sincerity, saying, according to iReporter Online, that the alliance is misleading Nigerians with hollow promises of rescuing the nation from underdevelopment.
“They are deceiving us,” he said firmly, casting doubt on the coalition’s ability to offer genuine solutions.
Baba-Ahmed, who contested alongside Peter Obi in the 2023 presidential election, reiterated his loyalty to the former Anambra State governor. He expressed a willingness to once again serve as Obi’s running mate if the opportunity arises in 2027.
Despite Peter Obi’s recent interactions with key figures in the ADC coalition—including Atiku Abubakar, Nasir el-Rufai, David Mark, Rotimi Amaechi, and Rauf Aregbesola—Baba-Ahmed insisted Obi should remain in the Labour Party and contest under its platform.
According to iReporter Online, Baba-Ahmed’s comments suggest growing tensions around emerging political realignments ahead of 2027, as major players begin to weigh their options in a potentially shifting political landscape.
