According to Ireporter Online, the Lagos State Police Command has arrested five suspected cultists following a violent clash between rival groups in the Onireke and Isashi areas of Badagry.

Command spokesperson SP Abimbola Adebisi confirmed the arrests in a statement issued on Sunday, noting that the suspects, aged between 28 and 43, were apprehended during a swift operation that restored calm to the communities.

She explained that police responded to a distress call around 10:00 pm on Saturday after reports of fighting between rival cult groups. Tactical teams and detectives arrived promptly at the scene, rescuing three victims who were rushed to the hospital. However, one of the victims was later confirmed dead at the Badagry General Hospital.

Adebisi disclosed that a subsequent raid led to the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of dangerous weapons, including a locally made pistol, two pump-action guns, 52 live cartridges, two expended cartridges, a Toyota Avalon, a laptop, and several mobile phones.

The suspects are currently in custody and will face prosecution upon the conclusion of investigations. She further stated that efforts are ongoing to track down other cult members still at large, with intensified patrols and surveillance to prevent possible reprisal attacks.

The Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, commended the operatives for their professionalism and swift response. He reiterated the command’s commitment to stamping out cultism and other violent crimes in Lagos State, urging residents to remain law-abiding and report suspicious activities promptly to security authorities.
