Jubilation In Edo As Okpebholo Approves 13th-Month Salary For Workers

Ebojele explained that the gesture aligns with the governor’s worker-friendly policies and was designed to cushion the financial pressures faced by civil servants, particularly during the festive period. He noted that the 13th-month salary initiative was introduced shortly after Governor Okpebholo assumed office last year and has been sustained as part of efforts to enhance morale and productivity within the public service.

The spokesperson reaffirmed that the administration remains committed to prioritising workers’ welfare, describing it as a central pillar of effective and responsible governance in the state.

Across various ministries and government agencies, civil servants expressed appreciation for what they described as a timely and thoughtful intervention. Speaking with journalists, the Director of Orientation at the Ministry of Information and Strategy, Mrs. Rose Imonikhe, said she received the alert early in the day and was pleasantly surprised.

She described the payment as a welcome relief, noting that many workers had already spent their December salaries during the Christmas celebrations. According to her, the additional income would help civil servants approach the new year with greater financial stability.

Imonikhe further explained that the 13th-month salary would assist workers in meeting pressing obligations such as children’s school fees and rent renewals, stressing that the impact of the payment would be far-reaching for many families.

While commending the governor for the initiative, she urged civil servants to reciprocate the goodwill through increased dedication and commitment to their duties, noting that the civil service plays a critical role in delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.

Similarly, the Director of Administration at the Ministry of Environment and Sustainability, Egbe Jocy, praised the policy, stating that it would strengthen morale and boost productivity across the state’s workforce.

Many workers who spoke with reporters echoed these sentiments, describing the payment as a clear demonstration of the government’s people-centred approach to governance and a confidence-building measure in the current administration.

Reports indicate that Governor Okpebholo first implemented the payment of a 13th-month salary shortly after assuming office in November 2024 and has maintained the policy as part of his broader commitment to the welfare of Edo State civil servants.
