The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has officially inaugurated an eight-member high-ranking committee to oversee the implementation of state police and the rollout of the Nigeria Police Force’s new policing vision. According to Ireporter Online, the inauguration came during Disu’s first formal engagement with senior officers following his confirmation as the 23rd indigenous Inspector-General of Police on Wednesday.

Professor Olu Ogunsakin was appointed to chair the newly formed state police committee. Addressing senior police officers, IGP Disu emphasized that leadership is defined not by position but by responsibility. He stressed that professionalism and accountability must move beyond slogans to become guiding principles in operations across commands nationwide.

Disu also outlined plans to reinforce internal oversight within the force, directing that the Public Complaint Unit and X-Squad be empowered to operate independently. He underscored the imperative that all Nigerians, regardless of status or background, are treated with dignity, fairness, and justice.

Highlighting the benefits of decentralization, the IGP noted that distributing police functions across various levels of government would enable broader participation in national security management. His appointment had earlier been unanimously ratified by the Nigeria Police Council, paving the way for his swearing-in by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Wednesday.
