Oluwo: Nigerians Won’t Let Tinubu Leave After Two Terms
According to Ireporter Online, the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has suggested that Nigerians may call for President Bola Tinubu to extend his tenure beyond the constitutionally allowed two terms. The monarch made the remarks on Sunday through his spokesperson, Ibrahim Alli, in a message celebrating Tinubu’s 74th birthday.
Oba Akanbi praised Tinubu’s leadership, describing him as a decisive leader who has laid a renewed foundation of hope for the country. He stated that the President’s performance could prompt calls for a constitutional amendment to permit a third term.
Highlighting Tinubu’s administrative achievements, the monarch noted the significant improvements in the naira, the growth of Nigeria’s foreign reserves from about $1 billion to between $49.5 billion and $50.45 billion as of late February and March 2026, and overall strengthened economic indicators. He attributed these gains to structural reforms, including exchange rate unification, increased oil production, and higher foreign investment inflows.
Oba Akanbi also commended the President for granting autonomy to local governments, increasing allocations to states, expanding road infrastructure, and improving the distribution of palliatives at the grassroots. He contrasted Tinubu’s achievements with past leaders, noting that previous administrations attempting similar reforms were often hindered by public and political pressures.
“The President has demonstrated uncommon leadership by implementing tough but necessary policies,” the monarch said. “Nigeria’s foreign reserves have risen dramatically, local government autonomy is taking effect, states are earning more, and major road projects, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road and Sokoto-Badagry road, are ongoing.”
Oba Akanbi added that the next phase under Tinubu’s leadership would focus on stability, emphasizing that true leadership is measured by the ability to make and stand by difficult decisions.
