Osimhen Back In Action As Galatasaray Eye Turkish Cup Semi-Final Spot
Victor Osimhen is set to make his much-anticipated return for Galatasaray in Wednesday’s Turkish Cup quarter-final clash against Gençlerbirliği at RAMS Park, according to Turkish media reports.
The Nigerian striker has been sidelined for the club’s last four matches after sustaining an arm injury but has now returned to full training, raising optimism within the Galatasaray camp. He was part of the squad in last weekend’s league encounter with the same opposition but remained an unused substitute.
Reports from Turkish outlet Sabah suggest the 27-year-old may be introduced gradually, with a possible 15 to 20 minutes of playing time as he regains full match fitness ahead of Sunday’s highly anticipated Intercontinental Derby against Fenerbahçe.
Galatasaray, the defending Turkish Cup champions, head into the fixture in impressive form, unbeaten in their last 10 cup matches, scoring 24 goals and conceding eight. A win would secure their place in the semi-finals, where they would face either Samsunspor or Trabzonspor.
Manager Okan Buruk has been without his key forward since Osimhen suffered a fracture during Galatasaray’s UEFA Champions League defeat to Liverpool in March, making his return a significant boost at a crucial stage of the season.
Local reports also indicate the striker is eager to feature as soon as possible, particularly with the derby against Fenerbahçe approaching. Osimhen himself reportedly expressed determination, insisting he intends to play in the high-stakes clash regardless of his condition.
Galatasaray have dropped five points during his absence and will be hoping his return provides a timely lift as they push through the decisive phase of the campaign.
