Bon Bread: Police Release Woman Detained Over Controversial Bread Allegation

According to Ireporter Online, a human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, has confirmed the release of a businesswoman, Ms. Love Dooshima, who was previously detained following a controversial social media review about a loaf of bread.

Effiong disclosed that Dooshima regained her freedom in the early hours of Tuesday after spending hours in custody at the Zone 7 Police Headquarters in Abuja.

Reports indicate that the businesswoman had honoured a police invitation on Monday, April 20, 2026, around midday but was subsequently detained after her appearance before the authorities. Her arrest was said to have stemmed from a petition filed by BON Bread, a company that claimed ownership of the product featured in her viral video.

In the widely circulated clip, Dooshima had alleged that a loaf of bread she purchased remained fresh for up to two months, a claim that sparked widespread reactions across social media platforms.

Effiong further stated that he, alongside others, visited the police facility late on Monday night following a distress call regarding her detention. He confirmed that her release was secured around 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, following intervention from the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu.

He, however, hinted that the matter may not be fully resolved, noting that further steps could follow as developments continue to unfold.

The lawyer’s statement read in part that the complaint leading to her arrest was lodged by BON Bread, adding that legal representatives would be returning to the matter later in the day.
