Abubakar Abba, Notorious Terrorist, Escorted To Abuja For Detention
Niger State Governor Alhaji Mohammed Umaru Bago has confirmed the arrest of Abubakar Abba, the leader of the dreaded Mahmuda terrorist group, which operated in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State and parts of Kwara State.
According to iReporter Online, the arrest was carried out by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Wawa town.
A statement by Bologi Ibrahim, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Bago, posted on his Facebook page, revealed that the terrorist was apprehended without a single shot being fired.
“Yes, it is true. I can confirm that the leader of Mahmuda, one of the most dangerous terror groups in West Africa, Abubakar Abba, has been arrested by the DSS,” Ibrahim, quoting the governor, said.
According to iReporter Online, Abba was apprehended alive through an intelligence-led operation.
“This is a huge victory for us as a people and as a government, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu deserves commendation for this encouraging news,” the statement added.
According to iReporter Online, Governor Bago emphasized that Abba’s arrest demonstrates the president’s unwavering commitment to ending insecurity and promoting the safety and well-being of Nigerians.
The governor, through his spokesman, also praised recent appointments in the security services, particularly in the DSS, saying: “It takes a tremendous degree of intelligence and competence to capture a high-profile terrorist like Abba without firing a single shot.
Where there is a will, they say, there is a way. Mr. President has consistently shown that willpower, which is why we are recording such successes.”
Governor Bago assured that the Niger State government will continue to collaborate with the federal government and security agencies to halt terrorism across the country.
