President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the 16-member Governing Council of the Nigeria Police Academy in Wudil, Kano State, as part of efforts to strengthen institutional leadership and enhance operational standards within the training institution.

According to Ireporter Online, the announcement was conveyed in an official statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who disclosed that the Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Gaidam, has been appointed as Chairman of the Council.

The newly reconstituted council also comprises key stakeholders, including the Chairman of the Police Service Commission and the Inspector-General of Police, alongside representatives from the Federal Ministries of Education, Finance, and Justice. In addition, the President approved the appointment of six individuals to represent the country’s geopolitical zones, namely Babagana Zannah Adam (North East), Emmanuel Torkuma Manger (North Central), Maigari Abati Dikko (North West), Dubem A. Obaze (South East), Ajibogere Toyin (South West), and Udom Udo Ekpoudom (South South).

Further composition of the council includes the Commandant of the Academy, the Provost, and the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of training as ex officio members, while the Registrar of the institution will serve as Secretary to the Council.

In a related development, President Tinubu also approved the establishment of a new campus of the Nigeria Police Academy in Erinja, located in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State. The initiative, according to Ireporter Online, is backed by a special take-off grant of ₦15 billion to support the commencement of academic and administrative activities at the new facility.
