JUST IN: 12 Dead, 14 Injured In Devastating Edo Highway Crash

According to Ireporter Online, no fewer than 12 persons have lost their lives while 14 others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a tragic road crash that occurred at Egono village along the Benin–Auchi–Lokoja highway in Edo State.

Eyewitness accounts revealed that the victims were travelling in a truck conveying both passengers and goods when the driver reportedly attempted a dangerous overtaking manoeuvre. The vehicle subsequently veered off the road, overturned, and trapped several occupants beneath it.

Confirming the incident, the Edo State Command spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Patricia Onwochei, stated that the crash occurred on Wednesday and resulted in 12 fatalities. She attributed the accident to wrongful overtaking.

Onwochei further disclosed that one of the deceased had already been buried, while the remains of the other 11 victims were deposited at the mortuary of St Lazarus Hospital. The injured victims are currently receiving medical attention.
