China Pledges Development Opportunities Sharing With Nigeria – Envoy

According to Ireporter Online, China has reaffirmed its readiness to share development plans and opportunities with Nigeria and other countries, as part of efforts to deepen international cooperation and mutual growth.

The Director General, Cultural Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy and Director of the Chinese Cultural Centre in Nigeria, Mr. Yang Jianxing, made this known during the 2026 International Chinese Language Day celebration held in Abuja.

Jianxing explained that China, through its recently adopted 15th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development, is committed to promoting high-quality economic and social progress while expanding cultural exchanges and cooperation with partner nations, including Nigeria. He added that the initiative would also ensure shared development opportunities across the globe.

He emphasized that learning the Chinese language remains a key pathway to deeper understanding and stronger bilateral relations, noting that it enhances participation in mutually beneficial cooperation across various sectors. According to him, “learning Chinese is undoubtedly an important shortcut to fully understanding China and realizing one’s dreams through participation in mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Nigeria in various fields.”

The envoy further urged Nigerians to embrace the Chinese language, describing it as a vital bridge for communication and a tool for strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership between both countries. He expressed optimism that increased language learning would foster greater understanding and closer ties.

Jianxing also highlighted the global reach of the Chinese language, stating that it is one of the six official languages of the United Nations and is taught in more than 190 countries and regions, with over 200 million learners worldwide.

In his goodwill message, the Director General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Dr. Mohammed Bulama, represented by Mr. Suleiman Musa, underscored the importance of language in diplomacy, trade, and cultural exchange in today’s interconnected world. He noted that FRCN has introduced a weekly Chinese programme titled Ni Hao China to promote Mandarin language learning and enhance Nigeria-China relations.

He explained that the initiative aligns with agreements reached between both countries during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s state visit to China in September 2024, aimed at boosting trade, tourism, and communication.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (FCT Council), Mrs. Grace Ike, said the celebration highlights the role of language as a powerful bridge for cultural understanding and international cooperation.
