NDC Clears Peter Obi As Sole Presidential Aspirant Ahead Of Primaries

The National Screening Committee of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has cleared former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, as the party’s sole presidential aspirant ahead of its upcoming primaries.

According to Ireporter Online, Obi arrived at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja at about 6:45pm on Tuesday, accompanied by Senator Victor Umeh, who represents Anambra Central. He was subsequently screened by a panel led by former Minister of Education, Sam Egwu.

Speaking after the exercise, Egwu stated that the committee was satisfied with Obi’s conduct during the screening process, noting that he provided clear and satisfactory responses to all questions raised by the panel. He added that Obi had met all constitutional and electoral requirements necessary to contest the party’s presidential primary.

Egwu further issued an official clearance confirming Obi’s eligibility, stating that he had complied with all provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Electoral Act. He also presented Obi with the party’s nomination form numbered 001.

Meanwhile, Obi had earlier obtained the party’s presidential nomination and expression of interest forms on Sunday, May 17, before the initial deadline set by the party. The NDC later extended the deadline for other categories of aspirants to May 24 to allow more participants to obtain forms.

The party confirmed that submission of completed nomination forms by screened and cleared aspirants will run from May 20 to May 26. However, it clarified that the deadline for presidential nomination form collection remains closed, with no extension granted for that category.
