NDC Sets Up 20-Member Panel To Screen Gov’ship, NASS Aspirants

The National Working Committee of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has constituted a 20-member National Selection Committee to oversee the screening of governorship and National Assembly aspirants ahead of the party’s forthcoming primaries.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the party’s National Secretary, Barrister Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, who explained that the move followed the approval of the party’s National Leader based on recommendations from the NWC as preparations for the primaries gather momentum.

According to the statement, the committee was established to strengthen transparency, internal democracy and credibility in the party’s candidate selection process. The committee is scheduled to be formally inaugurated on Monday, May 25, 2026, after which it will immediately commence its inaugural meeting.

The party explained that the committee would be responsible for reviewing and scrutinising reports submitted by the National Screening Committee before making final decisions on the eligibility and clearance of aspirants seeking to contest on the platform of the NDC.

National Chairman of the party, Moses Zuwoghe, will head the committee, while the National Secretary, Barrister Ikenna Enekweizu, will serve as secretary. Other members include Buba Galadima, Yunusa Tanko, Udenta Udenta, Aminu Abdulsalam, Alhaji Mohammed Bakin Zuwo and Shittu Mohammed, among others.

The statement further noted that only aspirants screened and cleared by both the National Screening Committee and the National Selection Committee would be eligible to purchase nomination forms.

The party added that where consensus candidates fail to emerge, direct primaries would be conducted between May 28 and May 30, 2026, in line with established party guidelines.

The NDC also appealed to aspirants, stakeholders and members to cooperate with the leadership as the party works within tight timelines to conclude the exercise, stressing that the process was designed to ensure free, fair and credible primaries capable of producing widely accepted candidates and strengthening party unity ahead of the elections.
