Troops Disrupt Kidnap Plot, Eliminate One Terrorist In Kogi

According to Ireporter Online, the operation was confirmed in a statement issued on Saturday in Lokoja by the Brigade’s spokesperson, Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, who disclosed that the troops acted on credible intelligence to intercept the criminals along the Old Obajana–Tajimi Road.

He explained that the ambush was carried out on May 30 following reports that suspected terrorists were preparing to launch kidnapping attacks around Jakura II Community. Acting swiftly, the troops were deployed to a suspected crossing point, where they successfully engaged the criminals in a fierce gun duel.

During the encounter, one of the terrorists was neutralised while other members of the gang escaped with suspected gunshot injuries. The troops, however, recovered an AK-47 rifle, five magazines, 70 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one bandolier, and mobile phones from the scene.

The spokesperson noted that the recovered items further confirmed the group’s involvement in kidnapping-related activities within the area, adding that ongoing exploitation operations are underway to track down the fleeing suspects.

He further stated that the Commander of the 12 Brigade, Brig.-Gen. Kasim Sidi, commended the troops for their professionalism, vigilance, and operational efficiency, while reaffirming the Brigade’s commitment to sustaining offensive operations against criminal elements.

The Nigerian Army also assured residents of its determination to maintain pressure on terrorists and urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to security agencies.
