Politics Wasn’t My Path, Udom Made Me Governor — Gov. Eno

Akwa Ibom Governor, Umo Eno, has revealed that politics was never part of his original career ambition, stating that his emergence as governor was divinely orchestrated through the support of his predecessor, Udom Emmanuel.

According to Ireporter Online, Eno made the disclosure on Saturday during his third anniversary media briefing held at the Government House Banquet Hall in Uyo, where he reflected on his political journey and administration.

The governor explained that former Governor Udom Emmanuel played a pivotal role in his rise to power, noting that he was supported and positioned against all odds to secure victory in the 2023 governorship election. He stressed that his entry into politics was not self-driven but shaped by what he described as divine arrangement.

Eno, while addressing speculations of a strained relationship between him and Emmanuel, maintained that he would not speak negatively about past leaders, insisting that gratitude, loyalty, and respect remain guiding principles of his leadership. He added that regardless of political dynamics, he would not participate in narratives that undermine those who contributed to his success.

The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to accountability in governance, warning that underperforming contractors risk having their projects reviewed or terminated if they fail to meet expectations. He disclosed that several strategic road projects are currently ongoing across the state, including major dualisation and reconstruction works aimed at improving transportation and economic activity.

He further announced plans to establish a monitoring committee comprising journalists, civil society actors, and other stakeholders to track potholes and road defects within Uyo metropolis, describing it as part of efforts to enhance transparency and responsiveness in governance.

On the issue of electricity supply, Eno appealed for patience from residents, noting that his administration is working through necessary structural and implementation frameworks to achieve stable power supply in the state.

He reiterated his government’s commitment to delivering infrastructure and development projects across Akwa Ibom, assuring that efforts are ongoing to ensure citizens fully benefit from democratic governance.
