According to Ireporter Online, President Bola Tinubu has reacted to the abduction of school teachers and pupils in Oyo State, expressing deep sympathy with affected families and condemning the attack carried out by suspected armed terrorists.

The President, in a statement posted on his official X handle, lamented the ordeal faced by the victims, stressing that no parent should be forced to endure the trauma of having a child kidnapped, while also insisting that no child should ever be taken away from the safety of a classroom environment.

Tinubu stated that government efforts to rescue the abducted pupils and teachers from communities in Oriire Local Government Area are being intensified, noting that a specialised security unit with enhanced operational and intelligence capabilities has been deployed to lead coordinated rescue operations.

He further disclosed that 1,000 forest guards would be recruited in partnership with the Oyo State Government as part of broader security measures aimed at improving surveillance and response in vulnerable areas. The President also said proposals for the establishment of a military base in the affected region were receiving urgent attention.

Reassuring Nigerians, Tinubu emphasized that rescue operations would remain intelligence-driven, carefully coordinated, and sustained until all victims are safely returned. He also extended condolences to the family of a deceased school teacher, pledging that the family would not be abandoned in their time of grief.

The abduction, which occurred on May 15 in Ahoro-Esiele and Yawota communities, has sparked widespread concern and led to industrial action by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), which directed an indefinite strike across the state.
