Tinubu Unveils 79 New Ambulances For Tertiary Hospitals

According to Ireporter Online, President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday officially unveiled 79 advanced ambulances assembled locally for distribution to tertiary hospitals across Nigeria, in a move aimed at strengthening emergency healthcare delivery and reducing preventable deaths nationwide.

The ambulances were commissioned in Lagos by the Chief Medical Director of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Prof. Wasiu Lanre Adeyemo, who represented the President at the event. The vehicles are set to be deployed to federal tertiary health institutions under the National Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System.

The initiative forms part of activities marking the third anniversary of the Tinubu administration and is designed to enhance the responsiveness of emergency medical services under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Speaking at the commissioning, Adeyemo said the deployment reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to improving the speed, efficiency, and quality of emergency healthcare delivery. He noted that delays in accessing medical attention often result in avoidable deaths and complications.

According to him, the new ambulances will improve patient transportation from homes, schools, markets, highways, and other locations to hospitals, ensuring timely medical intervention. He added that the vehicles are equipped as Advanced Life Support ambulances with modern medical and communication systems that allow hospitals to prepare for patients before arrival.

Adeyemo further disclosed that the ambulances were fully assembled in Nigeria, including the installation of medical equipment, describing the development as evidence of the country’s growing local manufacturing capacity. He also noted that the vehicles operate on a dual-fuel system, using both Premium Motor Spirit and Compressed Natural Gas, in line with government energy diversification efforts.

He explained that the project aligns with broader health sector reforms being coordinated by the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, stressing that effective emergency transportation is as critical as hospital infrastructure in saving lives.

Adeyemo urged stakeholders at all levels of government and the private sector to support local production capacity in addressing emergency healthcare challenges. The Federal Government maintained that the nationwide deployment of the ambulances will strengthen referral systems, improve access to lifesaving care, and contribute significantly to reducing mortality rates across the country.
