Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has responded to allegations made by former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, urging Nigerians to pray for the ex-governor rather than escalate political tensions.

According to Ireporter Online, Makinde’s reaction was conveyed on Tuesday through a statement issued by the Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade.

Fayose had alleged that the recent abduction incident in Oyo State may have been politically motivated, suggesting it was aimed at embarrassing President Bola Tinubu. He further insinuated that the state government could have been involved, though no evidence was provided to support the claims.

In its response, the Oyo State Government described Fayose’s comments as baseless, noting that the allegations had come as a shock to many Nigerians.

The government stressed that Governor Makinde remains focused on addressing the state’s security challenges, particularly the ongoing efforts to secure the release of abducted pupils and teachers.

It added that the administration is fully committed to working with security agencies to ensure the safe return of victims and restore calm in affected communities, insisting it would not be distracted by political attacks.

The statement also criticized Fayose’s remarks, warning that such comments could heighten tension and undermine ongoing rescue operations.

“The Governor is too preoccupied with finding a solution to the challenges posed by the kidnappers of children and teachers in the state to engage someone whose lifestyle and comportment have been suspect over a long time,” the statement read in part.

It further added that for a former governor to be “consumed by the politics of vindictiveness, vileness, deceit and hate” at such a sensitive time was regrettable and capable of worsening the situation, stressing that such conduct “smacks of one who has lost his mind.”
