Police Carry Out Raid In Ogun Community, Arrest 31 Foreign Nationals
According to Ireporter Online, the Ogun State Police Command has taken into custody 31 foreign nationals suspected of illegally residing in Nigeria without valid immigration documentation. The suspects were arrested during a coordinated raid in the Atan Ota area of the state.
Security sources disclosed that the operation was carried out around 11:30pm on June 1, following an alert from residents who reported the presence of a group of foreigners in Kajola Ilese, Atan Ota. Acting on the tip-off, the Divisional Police Officer reportedly deployed a surveillance team led by the Incident Duty Officer, ASP Dosumu Akinlolu, to investigate the situation.
The team subsequently located 31 individuals—comprising 19 men and 12 women—housed in an apartment within the community. The suspects were immediately taken into custody for screening and verification.
Preliminary findings indicated that none of the individuals were in possession of valid immigration documents. However, the group reportedly claimed to be nationals of Côte d’Ivoire who entered Nigeria to engage in online business activities.
Authorities stated that the suspects have been placed in protective custody pending their transfer to the Nigeria Immigration Service for further investigation. The case is expected to be handed over to the NIS office in Idiroko for verification of their immigration status and appropriate action.
