Presidency: Terrorist Sympathisers Circulating Fake Images Of Oyo Victims
According to Ireporter Online, the Presidency has dismissed viral images circulating on social media that allegedly show the condition of abducted schoolchildren in Oyo State, describing them as misleading and unrelated to the incident.
Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, clarified that the photographs being shared online did not originate from the recent abduction case involving schoolchildren in Oyo State. He explained that the images were falsely linked to the incident in an attempt to misinform the public and stir panic.
Onanuga stated that findings from Africa54Research revealed the pictures actually originated from Mali, where they were taken in June 2020 during an incident involving a teacher who was reported to have physically disciplined his students.
He further alleged that the circulation of the misleading images was a deliberate effort by certain individuals, whom he described as terrorist sympathisers, aimed at creating fear within the public space and discrediting ongoing efforts by the government and security agencies to secure the release of the abducted pupils and their teachers.
He emphasized that the viral posts were part of a broader attempt to distort facts surrounding the Oyo abduction case while authorities continue working toward resolving the situation.
