Boko Haram Releases 416 Abducted Women And Children In Ngoshe

According to Ireporter Online, suspected Boko Haram terrorists have released 416 women and children who were abducted from Ngoshe community in the Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

The development was confirmed on Sunday by the President of the Borno South Youth Alliance (BOSYA), Samaila Kaigama, who disclosed that the captives were freed on June 6 after sustained engagements and advocacy efforts.

Kaigama stated that the released individuals had been held following earlier attacks in the area, noting that the group played a role in facilitating communication and pressing for their release. He expressed relief over the outcome, attributing the breakthrough to persistent appeals and negotiations.

He further urged the Federal Government, the Borno State Government, and relevant local authorities to ensure proper profiling and screening of the freed women and children to aid reintegration and security management.

Meanwhile, attempts to obtain an official response from the Borno State Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Usman Tar, were unsuccessful as calls placed to him were not answered at the time of filing this report.

It would be recalled that on March 4, suspected Boko Haram militants reportedly attacked a military formation in Ngoshe, during which vehicles were destroyed, security personnel were dispersed, and several residents were abducted.

BOSYA had previously served as an intermediary between the affected community and stakeholders, maintaining communication channels aimed at securing the release of the abductees.
