According to Ireporter Online, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has suggested that the 2027 general election could be his final attempt at securing Nigeria’s presidency.

Obi made the remark during an interview on Nevon HQ, where he responded to a question posed by a secondary school student on whether he would still consider running again if he contests in 2027 and fails to win. He explained that his perspective is influenced by Nigeria’s political zoning arrangement, which alternates power between the North and the South, noting that such dynamics significantly shape long-term political calculations.

He further stated that if he contests in 2027 without success, the presidency could rotate to the northern region in 2031 under the prevailing political pattern. Obi added that by the time power potentially returns to the South after that cycle, he would be about 78 years old, a stage of life he considers unlikely for an active presidential pursuit. While acknowledging that political circumstances can still change, he indicated that 2027 may realistically represent his last serious bid for the office.
