Human rights lawyer and political activist Dele Farotimi has said recent developments in Nigeria have strengthened the arguments previously made by the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

According to Ireporter Online, Farotimi made the remarks in a post shared on his account on Wednesday while commenting on the state of affairs in the country.

The activist expressed concern that Kanu remains in detention while individuals accused of serious crimes continue to move freely in society.

Farotimi argued that the situation reflects deeper problems within Nigeria’s political and justice systems, accusing the government of failing to adequately address systemic challenges.

He maintained that he could not find a convincing argument against some of the criticisms Kanu had raised in his agitation against the Nigerian state.

Farotimi said, “Nigeria has proven Nnamdi Kanu right at every point. I have no single argument against the facts that have been adduced by Nnamdi Kanu in his agitation against the Nigerian state, not one.”

He further stated that his assessment had become even stronger with recent developments, insisting that Kanu’s position had been vindicated by events in the country.

According to the activist, the continued detention of Kanu alongside the freedom enjoyed by people accused of violence was evidence of what he described as serious contradictions within the Nigerian system.

Farotimi also warned that when governments fail to respond to reasonable and rational voices, more extreme positions could gain prominence.

He said he had previously engaged with separatist agitators from different parts of Nigeria, including the South-East and South-West, adding that the concerns surrounding separatist movements should not simply be ignored.

The activist’s comments have reignited discussions surrounding Kanu’s detention, separatist agitation and the broader challenges confronting Nigeria’s justice and governance systems.
