Atiku Mourns Veteran Actor Ogogo, Pays Tribute To Nollywood Legend

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has expressed sadness over the death of veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, who passed away at the age of 66.

According to IREPORTERONLINE, Ogogo’s death was announced by veteran actor Jide Kosoko, who disclosed that the actor died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, after battling stage-four cancer.

The development came only days after Ogogo’s health condition became public, with members of his family appealing for medical assistance.

His remains are expected to be taken to his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State, where a lying-in-state ceremony will be held on Monday, August 24, at the Pavilion in Ilaro.

Reacting to the actor’s death in a statement shared on X, Atiku described the development as deeply painful, particularly because it occurred shortly after Nigerians became aware of Ogogo’s battle with cancer.

The former Vice-President noted that Ogogo’s contribution to Nigeria’s entertainment industry went beyond acting, saying the veteran actor entertained, educated and inspired generations through his performances.

Atiku said Ogogo used his talent to tell stories that reflected society while contributing significantly to the growth of Nigeria’s creative industry.

He described the actor’s death as a major loss to Nollywood and the millions of people who admired his work in Nigeria and beyond.

Atiku extended his condolences to Ogogo’s family, colleagues, friends and fans, praying that Almighty Allah would forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest.
