Members of the Hotel and Personal Service Senior Staff Association have staged a protest at the Abuja Continental Hotel over alleged unfair labour practices, poor working conditions and concerns surrounding workers’ freedom to unionise.

The association, which is affiliated with the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), began the protest on Monday by blocking the main entrance of the hotel as part of its industrial action.

According to IREPORTERONLINE, the union accused the hotel management of failing to address several concerns raised by workers, particularly issues relating to freedom of association and what it described as unacceptable working conditions.

The association also alleged that its repeated efforts to engage the hotel management in discussions had been unsuccessful.

As the protest continued, union members reportedly attempted to further restrict access to the hotel by locking the entrance gate. However, their move was resisted by police officers and some hotel officials at the scene.

Despite the resistance, the union members maintained their protest and continued to block access to the hotel as they pressed their demands.

The development has disrupted normal activities at the hotel as the workers seek a resolution to the issues they have raised with management.
