It’s Over For Yahoo Boys” – FBI Reportedly Intensifies Operations In Nigeria
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has reportedly intensified its operations and collaboration with Nigerian security agencies as part of efforts to tackle cybercrime, fraud and other offences allegedly committed from Nigeria against victims in the United States.
The development has generated reactions online following a warning by an X user, @MasterBolaji, who claimed that Nigerians involved in internet fraud could no longer rely on the country as a safe haven while targeting victims abroad.
According to Ireporter Online, the social media user alleged that the FBI now has an official presence in Nigeria and would work with the Nigerian Police Force to arrest and extradite suspects accused of defrauding American citizens.
The warning has attracted renewed attention amid recent cases involving Nigerian nationals arrested in the country and subsequently extradited to the United States to face criminal charges.
On August 27, 2026, two Nigerian men, Adebola Festus Adekunle and Mudasiru Afeez Olawale, were reportedly extradited to the US over allegations involving financially motivated sextortion targeting minors. Both men had earlier been arrested in Nigeria in 2023 during an operation involving the FBI and Nigerian authorities.
The extradition process reportedly involved the FBI Legal Attaché in Abuja, FBI agents who travelled to Nigeria, the US Department of Justice’s Office of International Affairs and Nigerian security agencies, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Other cases have also highlighted growing cooperation between American and Nigerian authorities in tackling transnational financial crimes.
In May 2026, Nigerian national Samuel Ugberaese was extradited to the United States to face allegations of wire fraud and money laundering conspiracy connected to an alleged romance fraud scheme targeting victims in the US and other countries.
Similarly, Afeez Olatunji Adewale was extradited to the US in February 2026 over allegations linked to a sextortion scheme and the death of a young man.
The developments have underscored the increasing cooperation between US law enforcement agencies and their Nigerian counterparts in investigating and prosecuting alleged cybercrime and other offences with international links.
While the social media warning has not, by itself, established a new FBI enforcement arrangement, recent extradition cases demonstrate that Nigerian-based suspects accused of crimes against US victims can face investigations and prosecution across jurisdictions.
