APC Postpones Primary (Details)
The governorship primary of the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) could not hold as scheduled yesterday.
Barring a last-minute change, the primary would hold today.
Although no official statement has been made to that effect, as at the time of filing this report, The Nation gathered that insecurity was given reason by the Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi-led Committee.
Two separate meetings were held yesterday at the Premier Hotel, Ibadan while the primary election was to hold at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium formerly known as Liberty Stadium, Oke-Ado Ibadan.
Although the six aspirants for the governorship election, including Chief Niyi Akintola (SAN), Akeem Agbaje, Adebayo Adelabu, Akeem Alao, Teslim Folarin and Dr Azeez Adeduntan attended the first meeting, only Folarin was absent at the second meeting.
Despite the disagreement among the aspirants at the Premier Hotel meeting, it was resolved that the primary should go on as planned while aspirants can address their grievances in court afterwards.

The hope of the conduct of the primary received a boost with the arrival of the Senator Afikuyomi-led committee.
Oyo State Residents Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mutiu Agboke, said whatever could have led to the postponement was of little concern to INEC.
He said the commission was only at the venue to monitor proceedings.

He said although the commission had not been formally notified of the postponement, he assured that officials would be available anytime the party says it is ready to conduct the primary.
Chief Akintola told the party to kiss the Government House goodbye in 2023.
He made the remark while addressing hundreds of his supporters at Trans Amusement Park, Bodija Ibadan following an alleged plot to manipulate the governorship primary to favour a particular candidate.
Akintola, who did not name the particular aspirant, noted that the list of delegates brought by the Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi-led committee to conduct the governorship primary did not in any way reflect the list submitted earlier to the National Secretariat of the party.
He said the development was the beginning of the end for the party in the state.
He said: “I will not be participating in the primary. It has been screwed in favour of one aspirant and I will not be a party to the charade.”
