19 Political Parties to Contest Ibadan North Bye-election – INEC Confirms
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that 19 political parties will participate in the upcoming bye-election for the Ibadan North Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives.
This was disclosed by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Oyo State, Dr. Adeniran Tella, during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Ibadan, the state capital.
The bye-election, scheduled for Saturday, August 16, 2025, is being conducted to fill the vacancy left by the late Hon. Musliudeen Olaide Akinremi, who passed away in July 2024.
Dr. Tella emphasized the commission’s readiness to conduct a credible and peaceful poll, noting that some non-sensitive election materials have already been received, with sensitive materials expected ahead of the election.
He stated, “A total of 19 political parties are expected to participate in the bye-election. The success of this election rests on our collective commitment to fairness, transparency, and inclusivity. Let us make this a model for future elections.”
The election is anticipated to draw significant attention as political parties seek to assert influence in one of Oyo State’s key constituencies.
