In a bold move to combat drug abuse and related crimes in Yobe State, a joint security team led by the Damaturu Local Government Executive Chairman, Alhaji Bukar Adamu, and backed by the Nigeria Police, NDLEA, and the DSS, has raided several drug hotspots and brothels across the state capital and surrounding areas.

According to Yusuf Ali, Focal Person on Digital and Strategic Communications for the Yobe State Government, the operation was carried out on the directive of Governor Mai Mala Buni, who has declared zero tolerance for drug abuse and instructed local authorities to take swift action.

The coordinated enforcement exercise targeted notorious areas such as Zango, YBC, Bakin Kasuwa, Maduri, and Daki Goma, where multiple suspects were arrested for possession and trafficking of illicit substances.

Alhaji Bukar Adamu noted that the objective is to dismantle criminal enclaves, particularly zones where the open sale and consumption of controlled drugs thrive.

“This is part of our broader mission to sanitize Damaturu and align with the Governor’s stand against drug-induced social decay,” Adamu said.

The NDLEA confirmed that the arrests signal the beginning of an intensified campaign to disrupt both the supply and consumption chain of narcotics in the state. Officials vowed to continue surveillance and enforcement across targeted areas in the coming days.

“We are committed to prosecuting both low-level dealers and users. This operation is just the beginning,” the agency stated.

The clampdown is part of a state-wide initiative aimed at restoring public order, reducing drug-fueled crimes, and safeguarding communities from the ripple effects of substance abuse.
