2027: Court Orders INEC To Recognise NDC’s New Logo

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to upload and use the modified digital logo of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to Ireporter Online, the court ruling followed a legal battle between the NDC and the electoral commission over the party’s officially approved logo.

The National Leader of the NDC, Seriake Dickson, announced the development in a statement on Wednesday, describing the judgment as a victory for the party and due process.

Dickson explained that the party had approved a modified digital logo during its first National Executive Committee meeting and subsequently forwarded it to INEC for adoption.

According to him, INEC initially uploaded the new logo but later removed it and reverted to the old logo under which the party was originally registered as an association.

He said the party disagreed with the commission’s decision and eventually approached the court after efforts to resolve the matter with INEC failed.

Justice J. O. Abdulmalik subsequently granted the party’s request and directed INEC to upload and utilise the modified logo contained in the NDC constitution.

Dickson commended the judiciary for the ruling, saying the judgment had upheld the party’s position and ensured that its constitutionally approved identity would be recognised.

He urged all NDC candidates and members to immediately begin using the approved logo on campaign materials, banners, posters and other party-related publicity.

The former Bayelsa State governor also assured party members that there was no cause for concern over the development, noting that both the old and modified logos retained the party’s two-finger victory symbol.

Dickson acknowledged that some candidates and members may have already produced campaign materials bearing the previous logo but urged them to transition to the constitutionally approved version.

He added that the NDC would begin a sensitisation campaign to inform its members, candidates and the general public about the adoption of the new logo as preparations continue for the 2027 elections.

The party leadership maintained that the court’s decision had settled the dispute and cleared the way for the NDC to move forward with its officially recognised identity.
