2027 Race: Kaduna Govt Tells Ambitious Appointees To Step Down

According to Ireporter Online, the directive follows the release of a revised election timetable by the Independent National Electoral Commission outlining key dates for the 2027 electoral cycle.

Under the new schedule announced by the electoral body, elections for the offices of president and members of the National Assembly are slated for January 16, 2027, while governorship and state houses of assembly elections across the country will be held on February 6, 2027.

The timetable further indicates that political parties are expected to begin their primaries from April 23, 2026, as preparations for the nationwide polls gather momentum.

Commenting on the development, the Secretary to the Kaduna State Government, Abdulqadir Muazu Meyere, explained that the directive was issued to ensure strict compliance with electoral regulations governing participation in party primaries and general elections.

He noted that existing laws require political appointees and other public office holders seeking elective positions to vacate their offices at least one month before the commencement of party primaries.

Meyere therefore advised all affected officials to submit their resignations before the stipulated deadline to avoid violating the legal provisions guiding the electoral process.

According to him, the decision is intended to ensure transparency and adherence to the rules as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
