A License To Intimidate– Kemi Badenoch Condemns Nigerian Police

contrasting them with her positive encounters with the British police.
When asked about her trust in the UK police, Badenoch was candid in her response: “I do trust the UK police. My experience with the Nigerian Police, however, was deeply negative.” She went on to explain that, unlike the professional service she received in the UK, her experiences in Nigeria were filled with corruption and abuse.
“Back in Nigeria, the police didn’t protect us. Instead, they robbed us,” she said, sharing a personal story of how Nigerian officers stole her brother’s shoes and watch. Laughing bitterly, she added, “It’s a very poor country, and giving people guns just gives them the power to intimidate.”
Despite her negative view of the Nigerian police, Badenoch acknowledged that not all police forces are the same. Recalling an incident in 2004 when she was burgled in the UK, she praised the local police for their swift and helpful response in apprehending the criminal.
Badenoch’s comments shed light on the deep-rooted challenges faced by citizens in Nigeria, where trust in law enforcement remains a major issue.
