Abia Government Forms Panel To Review Appointment Of Traditional Rulers

The panel, inaugurated by Abia State Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Local Government Affairs, Uzo Nwachukwu, is chaired by Magistrate Uche Uwanuakwa Uche (retd), with Chuka Agomo serving as secretary. Other members include HRH Eze Linus Nto Mba, chairman of Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Franklin Nwosu, second deputy chairman of Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers, and Mr. Dominic Chimbo.

During the inauguration at the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Umuahia, Abia State, Nwachukwu explained that the panel’s mandate is to investigate litigations and issues arising from the appointment and issuance of certificates of office to certain traditional rulers. The panel is also tasked with determining why certificates and staff of office were purportedly given to two individuals as traditional rulers and to examine allegations that some recipients were not elected by their communities.

Nwachukwu specified that the panel has a two-month timeline to complete its investigation and submit its findings to the state government. He urged the panel members to conduct their duties with integrity and cautioned against any form of victimization.

In response, Uche Uwanuakwa Uche, the panel’s chairman, assured that they would diligently carry out their responsibilities in line with the commissioner’s instructions.
