The iconic buildings, nestled within the Government Reservation Area (GRA) in Aba, were sealed and marked as “Abia State Government property,” signaling the end of an era of unauthorized occupancy.
Notably, one of the buildings had been repurposed into a school, with additional structures erected on the expansive compound, highlighting the extent of encroachment on state-owned land.
Mr. Uche Ukeje, the General Manager of the Greater Abia Development Authority (GADA), affirmed the rightful ownership of the properties by the state-owned textile company, decrying the unlawful occupation by unidentified individuals.
“The three buildings belong to the Aba Textile Mills PLC, but are being occupied by unknown persons. These properties belong to the state,” stated Ukeje, emphasizing the imperative for immediate eviction of the unauthorized occupants.
Undeterred by claims of ownership by some of the occupants, the government issued a stern warning, reaffirming its commitment to reclaiming all government properties unlawfully held by individuals, regardless of their status.
While some occupants asserted ownership based on documentation from previous administrations, the government remained resolute, citing legal authority and the imperative to uphold the rule of law in reclaiming state assets.
As the government asserts its authority and upholds the sanctity of public property rights, this decisive action signals a new era of accountability and governance in Abia State.
