Abuja Satellite Towns to Flow with Water Soon – Wike Pledges Transformation

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has affirmed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to resolving water supply challenges in all satellite towns within the capital.

Wike emphasized that President Tinubu is not only focused on road infrastructure but is equally dedicated to ensuring other essential social amenities reach every community in Abuja. He made these remarks on Friday while inspecting ongoing projects in the city and responding to inquiries about his recent visit to China.

According to a statement released Saturday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Lere Olayinka, Wike revealed that his trip to China was aimed at concluding talks with officials of the China Geo-Engineering Corporation Overseas Construction (CGCOC) Group regarding water supply projects.

He stated that the FCT Administration had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CGCOC to provide potable water to satellite towns, and the visit to China served as a follow-up to that agreement.

Wike reminded the public that the Tinubu administration had pledged to implement the Abuja City Water Supply project, part of which would reach communities along Airport Road during the administration’s second year in office. He added that President Tinubu had instructed that clean water be extended to satellite towns as well.

“This project is a top priority for Mr President,” Wike noted. “As of now, funding for the satellite towns’ water initiative has been included in the National Budget, which has been approved, and in our Statutory Budget currently before the National Assembly.”

He said the project would initially cover Bwari, Karu, and parts of Kubwa, noting that the procurement process is underway with the Bureau of Public Procurement. The Greater Abuja Water Supply project contractor, CGC, will also handle this initiative, he added.
