Accord Party Backs Gov. Otti, Pulls Out Of Abia Governorship Race

According to Ireporter Online, the national leadership of the Accord Party has announced its decision not to present a governorship candidate in Abia State for the 2027 elections, while also declaring its support for the re-election of Governor Alex Otti.

The party made the position known on Wednesday during a visit to Governor Otti at his country home in Nvosi, Isialangwa South Local Government Area, led by the National Chairman, Prof. Christopher Imumolen, and the National Secretary, Mukhtar Abdullah Djungo.

Prof. Imumolen explained that the decision was informed by what the party described as the governor’s impressive performance in office, stressing that opposition politics should also involve recognising good governance where it is evident.

He added that Governor Otti’s achievements in Abia State had earned him the backing of the Accord Party’s national leadership.

Speaking on behalf of the party, Djungo reaffirmed that Accord would not field any candidate against Otti in the 2027 governorship election, noting that the party’s State Executive had been directed to collaborate with other stakeholders in support of continued development in the state.

He further stated that the party’s focus was on the progress of Abia State, urging members to work in alignment with efforts aimed at improving governance and service delivery.

In response, Governor Otti expressed appreciation for the endorsement, commending the Accord Party’s leadership for its support and understanding.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritising the welfare and security of residents, noting that governance must remain centred on the well-being of the people.
