According to Ireporter Online, the Chief Press Secretary to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, has clarified that no preferred candidate has been selected by the governor ahead of the 2027 governorship election in the state.

Olanrewaju made the clarification on Thursday while reacting to reports suggesting that Governor Makinde had already settled on a successor. The reports had claimed that the governor had endorsed former Commissioner for Finance, Bimbo Adekanmbi, as his preferred candidate for the forthcoming election cycle.

The media aide dismissed the claims, stressing that consultations were still ongoing within the governor’s political circle regarding who would eventually emerge as the party’s candidate. He further noted that no official announcement had been made in that regard.

According to him, discussions remain at the consultative stage, and no individual has been chosen or publicly endorsed by the governor. He reiterated that speculations circulating in the public domain were unfounded and should be disregarded.

The clarification comes amid reports linking Governor Makinde and some stakeholders within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to possible political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, including alleged considerations of alternative party platforms.

Despite the growing political speculation, Olanrewaju maintained that the process of selecting a successor is still ongoing and no decision has been reached or announced.
