According to Ireporter Online, the factional leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by Nafiu Bala Gombe has faulted the registration of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar with the party, describing the process as inconsistent with its constitution. The group insisted that Atiku must undergo proper registration with the duly recognised ward executives in his locality before he can be acknowledged as a member.

The ADC leadership stated that Atiku’s recent registration at the Jada 1 Ward in Jada Local Government Area was conducted by individuals who are not recognised by the party’s national headquarters, rendering the exercise invalid. In a statement issued by the Director of Media and Public Affairs, Christopher O. Okechukwu, the party maintained that the former presidential candidate’s registration violates its internal procedures and established guidelines.

The faction noted that it has repeatedly advised Atiku to regularise his membership through the constitutionally approved ward leaders but said he has yet to comply. Okechukwu stressed that the individuals who facilitated Atiku’s registration lack the authority to admit new members on behalf of the party.

ADC urged Atiku and his supporters to approach the matter with understanding, emphasising that the party is not a platform for personal political aspirations but a collective movement committed to democratic renewal. The statement further expressed concern that the move may be part of a broader strategy to use the ADC as a temporary political base while awaiting reconciliation with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), adding that similar patterns had been observed in the past.

The party reiterated its call for Atiku to complete his registration through the officially recognised ward executives, assuring that once he does so, he will enjoy all rights and privileges guaranteed under the ADC constitution.
