A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced plans to elect new members into the party’s National Working Committee (NWC). According to Ireporter Online, the faction revealed in a statement on Sunday in Abuja, jointly signed by National Chairman Nafi’u Bala and Secretary of the Board of Trustees Rufus Ikanmi, that the election would take place between April 3 and 5.

The statement outlined that ward congresses are scheduled for March 19, local government congresses on March 24, and state congresses on March 28. Executives at all levels, from ward to national, will be elected through a consensus process, a move described as promoting unity, inclusivity, and internal cohesion within the party.

“This decision aligns with the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act 2026 (as amended), reflecting our commitment to unity, cohesion, and inclusiveness,” the statement said. The faction emphasized that the consensus approach aims to foster cooperation, collective leadership, and strengthen the party’s capacity to achieve its objectives.

The faction also announced a membership registration exercise for new members, running from March 14 to 25. Prospective members are expected to register at ward offices and obtain membership cards through the party’s Continuous Membership Registration Committee. Existing members are not required to renew their membership at this time.

According to the statement, petitions arising from the various congresses will be addressed between April 6 and 10. The faction also denounced an ongoing electronic membership registration exercise conducted by a coalition linked to the party, labeling it as illegitimate and outside the party’s constitutional procedures. The official online registration portal is expected to be released later via authorised channels.

Ireporter Online notes that the ADC coalition, led by David Mark, had earlier released a separate timetable for its congresses and national convention. Their schedule includes Polling Unit and Ward Congresses on April 7, Local Government Area Congresses on April 9, State Congresses on April 11, and the National Convention on April 14, 2026.
